How to get an AI job as a fresher in India

Apply for AI internships and associate or new-graduate roles, widen the search to AI-adjacent entry roles in data and software, and send a resume built around one or two real AI projects written in each job's own words. Expect few openings: of the 870 open machine learning and AI engineering jobs in India that Rezifi counted on employers' own careers sites on 29 October 2026, 28 were internships or entry-level roles (3%).

That is fewer than India's open jobs overall (8% of them are internships or entry level), and far below the 16% of machine learning and AI engineering jobs that are internships or entry level across every country in the same count. So the search is narrow, and your resume has to do more of the work.

Are there AI jobs for freshers in India?

Yes, but few on employers' own careers sites. Rezifi counted 24,043 open jobs in India on the careers sites of 434 employers on 29 October 2026. 870 of them were machine learning and AI engineering jobs, from 170 employers, and 28 of those were internships or entry-level roles: 20 entry-level roles and 8 internships.

Rezifi's AI reads each posting and records its level, so the count follows what the posting says, not its title. Most of India's machine learning and AI jobs were mid level, senior or lead: 759 of 870.

Across every country counted, machine learning and AI engineering has one of the highest shares of internships and entry-level roles of any kind of work in the count, and 50% of those roles were in the United States. In India, entry-level AI work on employers' own sites is thin. Look in more than one place, and apply soon after a role opens.

Where the AI roles open to freshers are

Look in three places. Rezifi keeps a live list for each, every job confirmed open in the last 3 days.

What AI jobs ask freshers for

Python, first and by a distance. Of the 646 internships and entry-level machine learning and AI jobs in the report's count across every country, 70% ask for Python, then Machine learning (41%), PyTorch (27%) and Artificial Intelligence (25%). A job counts a skill once, and only when its own words name it.

In India, AI engineer jobs want experience

Rezifi's AI engineer skills page counted 51 open AI engineer jobs in India from 25 employers on 17 October 2026. Just 1 of them was an internship or entry-level role, and the ones that state a minimum ask a median of 5 years. The skills they list as required most often are Python (71%), SQL (29%), AI Agents (22%) and Large Language Models (18%).

So build the skills every level asks for: Python, SQL, and working with large language models and AI agents. Show them in a real project, not only in a list.

What your resume needs to show

Your resume has to do the work that years of experience would. Four things carry it.

1. One or two real AI projects, near the top. Name what you built, the tools by name (Python, PyTorch, a large language model's API, a vector database) and the data it ran on. Give a result only if you measured it, and link the code so a reviewer can read it.
2. The job's own words. If the posting asks for large language models or AI agents, use those words in your skills and in the line that proves them.
