The best resume format for a fresher in India is one page, one column, in this order: contact details, a two-line objective, education, projects, internships under an Experience heading, skills, then certifications and achievements. With no full-time job yet, your education and what you built carry the page, so they go first.
This guide shows what goes in each section, what Indian freshers are often told to add and can leave off, a filled-in example to copy, and how Rezifi builds that resume for you from your notes, your LinkedIn profile or a PDF, then checks it for free with no sign-up.

The fresher resume format, section by section
A recruiter reading a fresher's resume is asking one question: what can this person already do? Each section answers part of it, and the order puts the strongest answer first.
- Contact details. Your full name, a personal email (not the college one you lose after graduating), a mobile number, your city, and your LinkedIn URL. Add GitHub or a portfolio link if you are applying for technical or design roles. Type them as text at the top of the page, not inside the page's header.
- Objective, two lines. Name the role you want and the two things you bring to it: “Computer science graduate looking for a junior data analyst role; built three dashboards in Python and Power BI during my final year.” Skip phrases like “a dynamic environment”, which say nothing about you.
- Education. Your degree, college, university, city and years, with your CGPA or percentage. Add class 12 and class 10 below it, with board, year and marks, when a job or a campus drive states a marks cut-off; otherwise your degree alone is enough.
- Projects. Two or three, each with its name, the year, and one or two lines on what you built and the tools you used. Final-year projects, hackathon entries and course projects all count. A number helps when it is real: “cut the report's run time from an hour to ten minutes”.
- Experience. Internships, part-time work, freelance work and positions of responsibility, each with your title, the organisation and the months you were there. Call the heading Experience, even if every entry is an internship, so software looking for an Experience section finds one.
- Skills. The tools and skills you can talk about in an interview, named the way job postings name them: “SQL”, “Power BI”, “Excel”, not “databases” or “data tools”. Skills by role shows what open jobs ask for.
- Certifications and achievements. Courses with the issuer and the year, a hackathon placing, a scholarship, a college club you led. One line each.
What to leave off a fresher resume in India
Many Indian resume samples still carry a block of personal details. A private employer does not need most of it to judge your work, and it takes room your projects could use. Leave these off unless the job or the application form asks for them:
- A photo. It takes space and tells a recruiter nothing about your skills. Add one only when a posting asks for it.
- Date of birth, father's name, marital status, religion. None of these is about the job. An application form that needs them will ask in its own boxes.
- A declaration with your signature and place. “I hereby declare that the above information is true” is a line from paper applications; a modern resume ends with your last section.
- Hobbies, unless they show a skill. “Reading” and “travelling” can go. “Run a 4,000-member coding community on Discord” stays, under achievements.
- Your full home address. Your city is enough for a recruiter to know where you are.
Government and public-sector applications are the exception: they set their own format and ask for these details on their own forms. Follow the notice for those.

Format rules that keep a first resume readable
- One page. A first resume with two or three projects and an internship fits on one. If yours runs a little over, read how to fit your resume on one page without shrinking the font.
- One column, real headings. Plain headings like Education and Skills, typed as text, help software put each part in the right field. Our guide to ATS-friendly resume format shows what parses and what breaks.
- One date format. “May 2025 – July 2025” on every entry, not a mix of “05/25” and “Summer 2025”.
- The file the form asks for. PDF or Word, whichever the application names; name the file with your name and the role, like
Ananya-Rao-Data-Analyst.pdf. - No template text left in. A line like “[Company Name]” or “Lorem ipsum” from a downloaded sample tells a recruiter the page was never finished.

How Rezifi builds and checks a fresher's resume
Typing a first resume from a blank page is where most of the mistakes above creep in. Rezifi starts you on the right shape and then checks it.
- Build it from what you have. Paste your notes, your LinkedIn profile or an old PDF, pick one of Rezifi's ATS-friendly templates, and Rezifi builds a clean resume you can edit and download as PDF or Word.
- Check it free, no sign-up. Drop the resume into the free ATS checker for freshers. Rezifi scores it out of 100, shows what a machine reads from it and lists every fix: a missing contact detail, a missing Experience section, an entry with no dates, an education entry with no school, template text left in. A check you do not keep is deleted within 24 hours.
- Fix it in one click. Sign up free, no card needed, to apply the fixes in one click.
- Tailor it to each job. Rezifi's AI resume tailor rewrites your bullets, summary and skills in each job's own keywords and shows every change on its line to keep or dismiss. It never invents an employer, role, date or credential.
Already have a resume in Word or Google Docs? Use it as it is, no template needed: Rezifi keeps every bit of your layout, and if it runs a little onto a second page, Fit to 1 page tightens only the spacing in one click, never your font size or your margins. When you apply, Rezifi's auto-apply copilot fills the whole application on any job site, even one it has never seen, and answers from your resume and everything it learns about you. You press Submit.
Questions people ask
What is the best resume format for freshers in India?
One page, one column, in this order: contact details, a two-line objective, education with your CGPA or percentage, two or three projects, internships under an Experience heading, skills, then certifications and achievements. Give every entry a title, a place and dates in one format.
Should a fresher put a photo, date of birth or father's name on a resume?
Not unless the employer asks. For a private-sector job these details say nothing about your work and take room your projects could use; an application form that needs them asks in its own boxes. Government and public-sector applications set their own format, so follow their notice.
Should I include my class 10 and 12 marks on my resume?
Include them when a job or a campus drive states a marks cut-off, below your degree, with the board, the year and your percentage. Otherwise your degree with its CGPA or percentage is enough.
What should a fresher write instead of work experience?
Projects, internships, part-time or freelance work and positions of responsibility. Put the projects after education, with what you built and the tools you used, and the rest under a heading called Experience, each with your title, the organisation and the dates.
Should a fresher's resume have an objective or a summary?
A two-line objective works well: the role you want and the two things you bring to it, such as a project and the tools you used. Leave out general phrases that would fit anyone.
How can I check my fresher resume for ATS for free?
Rezifi's free ATS check works with no sign-up: upload a Word file or a PDF and it scores your resume out of 100, shows what a machine reads from it and lists every fix. A check you do not keep is deleted within 24 hours. Sign up free, no card needed, to apply the fixes in one click.
