What job applications ask you
On 29 October 2026, Rezifi opened the job application of every employer in its job feed, 768 of them, and read the first form each one shows. Nothing was typed or sent. This is what those forms ask, before the first question and on the form, and how Indian and US employers' forms differ.

Before the form
What comes before the first question
583 of 768 employers (75.9%) show the form straight away or after the job posting, with no account and no email step. 103 ask you to create an account or sign in first, and 32 to confirm an email or a code.
The application system decides most of it. On Workday, 71 of 76 employers ask for an account or a sign-in before any question; on SAP SuccessFactors 24 of 27 ask you to sign in or make an account, and on Oracle 23 of 26 send an email code first.
Pay
Your current pay: India asks, the US rarely does
73 of 134 Indian employers' forms ask your current pay, and 80 the pay you expect. In the US, 2 of 408 forms ask current pay and 75 expected pay.
Many Indian forms run on two Indian application systems (45 on Keka, 27 on Zoho Recruit). On the three systems both countries use, Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever, the gap holds: 15 of 56 Indian forms ask current pay, against 2 of 388 US forms.
The form
What the first form asks for
The median first form asks 17 questions and requires 10; the middle half ask 13 to 21. 94.6% ask for a résumé and 76.8% for a LinkedIn profile.
Half the forms ask whether you will need visa sponsorship (293 of 583). Counting any work-rights question, it is 77.9% of US employers' forms and 14.1% of Indian ones.
29.8% ask how you heard about the job and 17.6% whether you have worked for the company before. 30 forms ask how you use AI in your work.
About you
Gender, race and veterans, on US forms
On US employers' forms, 56.1% ask gender, 54.6% race or ethnicity and 52.6% veteran status. 218 of the 229 gender questions sit in a section the form marks as voluntary or equal-opportunity, and every required one Rezifi could read offers a way not to answer.
How we read them
How Rezifi read these forms
Every figure on this page is a count of the 768 employers, or of the 583 first forms read, or a share of them. The data file holds every count.

Every employer in the feed
The 768 employers with an open job in Rezifi's job feed on 29 October 2026, most of them technology companies. Each counts once. The figures describe these employers, not every employer.
Opened as an applicant would
A browser opened each application at the link the feed opens, pressed Apply where the posting came first, and read each screen until the first form. Nothing was typed, no account was made and nothing was sent.
The first form only
Most systems show the whole form on one page. Systems that ask in several steps ask more on later steps, which this read does not reach.
Each question read and sorted
Every question on the form, its label and its choices, was sorted into one of the categories in the data file, and each category was checked by reading the questions it caught and the ones it missed.
Where the employer is
India and the US mean the employer's home country, not the job's. A US company's form for a job in India counts as a US form.
What our browser could not read
39 applications ended at a bot check, a closed posting or a page that could not be read. Those describe our browser and the feed, not the employer, and are left out of the shares.
Small groups as counts
Below 30 forms a figure is printed as a count, never a share.
Shares never rounded up
A share is the forms that ask a question divided by the forms read, cut to one decimal.
