How to find jobs that match your resume

Stop scrolling search results. Rank every job against what you have really done, and see your fit before you apply.

To find jobs that match your resume, compare each posting's required skills with the skills your resume actually shows, rank the jobs by that fit, and apply first where the overlap is strongest. You can do it by hand with a highlighter and a spreadsheet, or let a tool read your resume and every posting for you and put the best fit first.

This guide shows both. The by-hand method works with any job board. The faster way is Rezifi's jobs tab, which ranks jobs against your own resume, names the skills you have and the gaps on every posting, and since 12 October shows each job's fit at a glance on one meter.

Why searching by job title is not enough

A keyword search returns every posting that contains the words you typed. It does not know what you have done. “Product Manager” brings back roles that want five years of SQL you have never written, and it misses the “Growth Analyst” role that asks for exactly what you have shipped.

Titles drift between companies, and the same skill hides under different names: one posting says Postgres, another says relational databases. The result is a long list sorted by date or by how often your words appear, with the jobs you would actually get buried in it. Matching turns that around: it starts from your resume and asks, for each job, how much of what it needs you can already show.

How to match jobs to your resume by hand

If you want to do it yourself, this works with any job board:

  1. List your real skills. Go through your resume line by line and write down every tool, method and domain your bullets prove, not just what sits in your skills section.
  2. Pull each posting's must-haves. From every job you are considering, copy the requirements marked required, minimum or must-have. Keep the nice-to-haves in a separate column.
  3. Mark the overlap. For each job, tick the must-haves your list covers and circle the ones it does not. Treat close names as the same skill only when they really are.
  4. Rank the jobs. Put the jobs with the most must-haves covered at the top. Ignore the title and the company name while you do it.
  5. Read the gaps. For each circled skill, ask: have I done this and left it off my resume? If yes, add it. If no, the job is a stretch; apply only if you can make a fair case.
  6. Apply top down. Tailor your resume to the strongest matches first, in each job's own words.

It works, but it is slow: ten postings can take an evening, and the list is stale by the time you finish.

How Rezifi matches jobs to your resume

Rezifi does the same thing for every job in your feed, from your resume itself. There is no form of skills to fill in: it reads them from what you have written.

  • Ranked for you. Every job is scored against your own resume and the list puts the best fit first. The top match sits on its own board at the head of the list.
  • Fit as a word, not a number. Each job shows one of four verdicts on a four-bar meter: Strong fit, Good fit, Workable fit or A stretch today. A low fit is shown as distance to the job, never as a red mark against you.
  • The skills you have, and the gaps. Each job lists the skills of yours it asks for and, beside them, the ones your resume does not show. Required skills it could not check are counted rather than quietly left out.
  • Close a gap in a press. Press a gap and Rezifi opens your resume with that skill ready to add to your skills section. It never adds anything on its own, and one undo takes it back.
  • Act on the job where you found it. Save it for later, hide it, tailor your resume to it, or apply.

What to do with Strong, Good and a stretch

  • Strong fit. Apply first. Tailor your resume to the job's own words and send it while the posting is fresh.
  • Good fit. Apply. Read the gaps: one you really have belongs on your resume before you send it.
  • Workable fit. Apply when the job matters to you, and lead with the experience closest to its must-haves.
  • A stretch today. Skip it, or apply knowing why: a skill to learn, or a story that bridges the gap.

One rule holds at every level: only add a skill you can talk about in an interview. A matched keyword gets your resume read; it is the work behind it that gets you the job.

From a match to a sent application

A strong match is only worth something once your application is in. Rezifi's tailor, the best AI resume tailor, rewrites your bullets, summary and skills in each job's own keywords, never invents an employer, role, date or credential, and shows every change on its line to keep or dismiss. It works on your own resume from Word or Google Docs, in any design, no template needed; no resume yet? Build one from Rezifi's ATS-friendly templates.

Then Rezifi's auto-apply copilot fills the whole application on any job site, even one it has never seen: page after page, it presses Next, adds your experience and education and attaches your resume. It answers from your resume and everything it learns about you, so every application is faster than the last. You press Submit. And Rezifi keeps track of every resume you send, with every tailored version saved.

Questions people ask

How do I find jobs that match my resume?

Compare each job's required skills with the skills your resume shows, rank the jobs by how many must-haves you cover, and apply to the strongest matches first. You can do it by hand in a spreadsheet, or use a tool such as Rezifi, which ranks jobs against your own resume, best fit first, and names the skills you have and the gaps on every posting.

Is there a free tool that matches jobs to my resume?

Yes. Rezifi is free to get started, no card needed, and the jobs matched to your resume are free for as long as you use it. It reads the skills from your resume, so there is no form to fill in, ranks jobs by fit and shows each job's fit as Strong, Good, Workable or A stretch today.

Should I apply to jobs where I don't meet every requirement?

Often, yes, when you cover the must-haves and miss some nice-to-haves, or when you have done the missing work but left it off your resume. Add what you genuinely have, then apply. A job where you miss most of the must-haves is a stretch: apply only if you can explain how you would close the gap.

What does a job match score mean?

It is a tool's estimate of how much of a job's requirements your resume shows. Each tool calculates it differently, so a number from one tool cannot be compared with another's. Rezifi shows fit as a word instead of a number, Strong fit, Good fit, Workable fit or A stretch today, and lists the matched skills and the gaps behind it.

How do I add a missing skill to my resume?

Only add a skill you have really used. Put it in your skills section and, where you can, prove it in a bullet that says what you did with it. In Rezifi, pressing a gap on a job opens your resume with that skill ready to add; it is never added without your press, and one undo removes it.

See which jobs fit you best: Rezifi's jobs tab ranks them against your own resume and names every gap. Then tailor your resume to the job, check it with the free ATS checker, and let the copilot fill the application. Rezifi is free to get started, no card needed, and the pricing page has the one simple plan for unlimited use.
